CCEUs: 1 Core Competencies - 0.5 Resource Development Approved

Like all humans, we coaches are creatures of habit, subject to our own filters, learning, egos, and blind spots. How can coaching professionals—from the newest to the most seasoned—step out of our default patterns and comfort zones to truly dance in the moment? In this highly experiential workshop, coaches will learn the basic rules and skills of improvisation, developing core competencies in an entirely new way. By letting go of control and engaging in true collaboration, coaches will experience greater freedom, creativity, listening, presence, power, and willingness to take risks and go deeper into the unknown. Coaches will walk away with enhanced skills, a greater awareness of their personal blind spots and growth opportunities, and a toolkit of exercises to use for their own continued development and with clients.

Our professions, our lives, and the lives of our clients call for constant improvisation and on-the-spot communication. We live and work in a world of constant change. Improvisation skills can help us truly play full out—even as the game changes! In fact, improvisation skills are precisely the same skills that coaches must embody to excel in our engagement with clients.

Most people think improv is a skill you’re born with or not. The truth is that the skills of improvisation can be learned and practiced, and can help you up your professional and personal game. Plus...it’s FUN!!!

Improvisation practice will help coaches:

• Become more comfortable and adept at thinking on your feet

• Access your innate creativity

• Feel more confident

• Stay present

• Listen well

• Build trust, rapport, and safety with clients and others

This session is highly experiential and interactive. Participants will actively engage in exercises that will have them interacting in group and one-on-one forms. The session will involve mental, verbal, and physical engagement (design is sensitive to inclusion and accommodation of participants with physical disabilities). Coming out of this workshop, participants consistently report a profound sense of connection and rapport with their fellow attendees; the session fosters deep camaraderie that some describe as “magical.”
