CCEUs- 1.5 Core Competencies

Skillfully executed, storytelling is a tool that builds connection and deepens understanding between individuals.

Coaches can weld the power of story as either author or curious listener. By crafting a compelling narrative that speaks to their own journey and values, coaches can convey their personal brand to prospective clients.

Within the coaching session, the client becomes author and the coach assumes the role of listener and helpful editor, using reflective narrative and inquiry in order to unravel the story and deliver meaning for the client.

Understanding how to both weave a good yarn and unravel the insight from our client’s tales will be covered in this 1.5 hour Cutting Edge Conversation.

1. In the first portion of this session, participants will learn the elements necessary to craft a powerful and compelling story.

2. Participants will also discuss and share coaching questions that effectively evoke client insight into the meaning of their own narratives.

3. Small breakout groups allow for all participants to practice both the storytelling skills and the coaching approaches described.

Meet the presenter: Jennifer L. Swanson, MD, CBC, CPC

Jennifer Swanson is a seasoned senior executive and a professional coach who understands how to see possibility and turn visions into real life achievement. Over her 25+ year career in healthcare as a physician leader, she demonstrated clinical and operational success in four different specialty areas of medicine (emergency medicine, urgent care, occupational medicine and primary care) and led organizations to top decile national performance in quality of care and customer satisfaction—while also improving financial and engagement metrics. In each position, she identified untapped talent, introduced reports to their first leadership roles, and then coached many on to more senior positions. In 2021, Jennifer left her position as Associate Chief Medical Officer of Duke Primary Care and launched her company, Pocket Your Change Coaching and Consulting, LLC.
