Co-Lab: Coaching Ethically, Actually

This event is co-hosted with ICF NYC, the Competency Co-Lab, a monthly series for coaches to elevate their mastery of the ICF Core Competencies. Experience structured practice drills, interactive learning, and a supportive community. The Competency Co-Lab bridges theory and practical application, so you can seamlessly integrate your learnings into your coaching practice.
Each session unveils a drill specially designed around a Core Competency. Drill by drill, gain mastery over the full range of Competencies.
The October Co-Lab will be focused on Coaching Ethically, Actually.
We will practice applying ethical coaching principles in real-world scenarios by maintaining presence and navigating complex client situations with integrity and professionalism.

Our quarterly Member Orientation is designed to help you connect with the ICF Raleigh coaching community and learn how to make the most of your membership.
Whether you’ve recently joined or want a quick introduction to the resources available through the chapter, this relaxed virtual session is a chance to meet fellow coaches, explore upcoming events and programs, and discover ways to engage with the community.
This session reflects our mission to advance the coaching profession and empower our community through coaching, learning, and collaboration.

Creativity and Play for Coaches Series
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw
We are excited to announce a Creativity and Play for Coaches series: Brick by Brick (LEGOs), Expect the Unexpected (Improv), and Paint a Picture – leveraging metaphor, imagery, and creative tools in coaching. The series will build our creative and playful coaching skills, so we have fun and joy in our coaching! All workshops will be hosted by ICF-RAC Past President, Pamela Maxson, PhD, MCC
You can register for one, two, or all three of the workshops, all of which will be held in person.
All three workshops will encompass the ICF coaching competencies while integrating playful, creative approaches to help clients (and coaches) tap into their deeper knowledge and experience.
Paint a Picture Lunch & Learn
Join us for Paint a Picture Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, October 28th, from 10:00 to 11:30 am, hosted by ICF-RAC President, Pamela Maxson, PhD, MCC. Coaches (and clients) use metaphors and creative language as expressions of thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In this workshop, we will use creative tools (blank canvas, markers, paints…) to bypass our cognitive hurdles and allow our hands and hearts to express themselves. No artistic ability is needed – led by a self-described non-artist creative person.

Facilitator:
Pam Maxson, PhD, MCC, is an executive/leadership coach, mentor coach, speaker, author, and lifelong learner who focuses on helping individuals tap into their purpose, overcome their personal and professional obstacles, and develop a plan to achieve their goals. Pam believes learning happens when we are having fun and that life is too short to not learn continually (hence the need to always have fun); therefore, Pam employs creativity and fun often with clients to help them achieve personal and professional fulfillment.
Pam is an ICF Master Certified Coach and a Certified LEGO Coach. She holds a PhD in Human Development from Penn State University. Pam is the founder of Periscope Coaching, LLC; founder and lead instructor at Periscope Coach Training, an in-person, 5-day coach training held at Ocean Isle Beach, NC; an author (Finding Your Inner Bitch), and an avid chocolate chip cookie taster.
Coaching Patterns & Possibilities: Seeing What Emerges

Coaches develop patterns that influence how they listen, respond, make meaning, and partner with clients. Coaching supervision offers a reflective space to explore these patterns with curiosity, deepen professional awareness, and strengthen coaching effectiveness. In this interactive session, participants will examine what is emerging within themselves, their coaching relationships, and the broader systems that shape their practice. Through guided reflection, supervision conversations, and collaborative inquiry, coaches will expand their capacity to make intentional choices that enhance presence, partnership, and ethical practice while supporting sustainable professional growth.
Key Learnings:
1. Recognize Your Coaching Patterns -Develop greater awareness of the personal assumptions, habits, and triggers that influence how you listen, remain present, and respond during coaching conversations.
2. Strengthen Ethical and Reflective Practice - Explore how coaching supervision provides a trusted space to examine complex coaching situations, navigate ethical considerations, and deepen your professional judgment through reflective inquiry rather than immediate solutions.
3. Expand Your Coaching Presence and Partnership - Practice using reflective dialogue and collaborative inquiry to enhance coaching presence, cultivate stronger client partnerships, and evoke deeper awareness that supports meaningful and sustainable client growth.
Bio:
Sonja Mustiful is an EMCC certified in Coaching Supervision, Master Certified Coach (MCC), keynote speaker, author, and a thought leader empowering coaches and leaders to discover their strengths and rise to their potential. As Founder of Essence of Coaching, she partners with people and organizations to foster a coaching culture to reengage work teams, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen leadership effectiveness to achieve sustainable growth.
In addition to her MCC credential, she holds an ACTC (Advanced Certification in Team Coaching) from the International Coach Federation (ICF) and is a certified Brene’ Brown Dare to Lead facilitator.
With a background in corporate HR and executive coaching, Sonja specializes in helping leaders lead with their values, foster accountability, and navigate agility shifts with confidence. Her ability to hold presence while facilitating conversations encourages clients to explore their inner self-awareness and challenge their limiting beliefs.

We will practice empowering clients to take ownership of the session by actively honoring their choices, prompting partnership, and reinforcing/encouraging their expertise in their own lives.

We will design and practice a toolkit of targeted prompts and coaching moves to help clients integrate their insights, design meaningful next steps, and build accountability structures that support lasting growth.
